Natural Event:
I beleive that the myth of Persephone was made to explain winter. In the myth, it said that Persephone was in the Underworld for 6 months out of the year, which is how long winter lasts(atleast the colder weather). Also, it said that while Persephone was gone, the world was cold and barren, with nothing that grew,kind of like winter as well.
I also beleive that her myth explained Spring, because when Persephone returned from the Underworld, her mother was no longer depresed. She began to rejoice and gave the Earth lush feilds and wonderful grain and crops.
